The Local Government Unit of San Francisco in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) recently launched the Upland Sustainable Agri-Forestry Development (USAD) Program or USAD in barangay Bitan-agan last March 29, 2017. As initial kick-off and to help operationalize the program in the community, several projects were also turned over to the recipients during the aforementioned event.
The launching was highlighted by a medical mission, distribution of vegetable seeds, animal health activities and awarding of Land Titles from the DENR. Also, a total of 300 chairs from TESDA were given to elementary schools of the five pilot barangays with 50 chairs given to barangay Das-agan, 100 chairs to barangay Alegria, 50 chairs to barangay Lucac, 50 chairs to barangay Mate and 50 chairs to barangay Bitan-agan.
Among the 27 barangays, only 5 pilot barangays were selected to become the recipient of the program namely, Alegria, Lucac, Bitan-agan, Das-agan and Mate. These barangays were classified as upland making it ideal for the project.
As of now, farmer enrolees has been already identified by the USAD Team: 50 farmer enrollees from Mate, 45 from Lucac, 60 form Alegria, 40 form Bitan-agan and 40 farmer enrolees form Dasagan. Cacao Production, Cutflowers Production, Coffee Production, Falcata Production and Agsam Weaving were among the identified projects for the 5 barangays.
On the other hand, for infrastructure projects, construction of Farm to Market Roads in barangay Mate, Das-agan and Bitan-agan were also identified and the construction of Day Care Center building.
USAD is the flagship program of the Province of Agusan del Sur and is a brainchild of Governor Adolph Edward G. Plaza. It aims to reduce poverty incidence in the province thru extending different livelihood projects that was found suitable for the recipient community. Also, it is a convergence of different government and even private interventions in one barangay to help alleviate the living condition of its people.
